Enjoying God’s Presence

The beauty of a half day is that you are unhurried in your reflections. This allows you to think deeper, to feel more freely, to allow God’s Spirit to permeate your soul more completely. It may take time to fully relax without following a minute-by-minute schedule. Allow God’s Spirit to lead you as he chooses. If you get stuck, use these ideas to get you started:

  •     Ask for a sense of God’s presence then listen for the Holy Spirit to prompt you.
  •     Intentionally make a list of reasons to thank God. Spend time praising him for each one.
  •     Encounter God through Scripture. The Psalms reflect a God who hears all our feelings—nothing is out of bounds in our conversation with God. “Search me, O God and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me…” (Ps 139:23-24a) is a helpful place to begin. Confess, repent and forgive as prompted. Don’t hurry this important aspect of the day.
  •     Think of Scripture as a love letter. We long to be fully known and fully loved. God does both. He loves perfectly and genuinely. “I have loved you with an everlasting love…” (Jer 31:3). Sit with a few verses. Allow God’s Spirit to penetrate your soul. Listen for God’s words of love spoken directly to you. Receive his love. Respond with your whole person.
